Question #3: Why are you interested in this position?

Interviewers ask this question, typically, because they want to check whether:

  1. You understand the position you’re applying for

  2. You are enthusiastic about the position

  3. Your goals, skills and experience align with the role and what benefit can you bring to the company.

So, you want to:

  1. Show off what you know about the company

  2. Connect your skills and experiences to the job description

You want to avoid:

  1. Not talking about the company.

  2. Only saying what’s in it for you.

  3. Bringing up points that aren’t relevant.

Examples:

That's a great question! From what I've learned, it sounds like you are looking for someone who will be able to handle customer concerns quickly and effectively, is that accurate? In that case, the fact that in my current role I…

or

I believe that my experience with technology, specifically in the web design space, make me the best match for this position.
